It is with sadness that I read the obituary of Dave McQue G4NJU.
Dave G3ZPA got me interested in Amateur Radio when I was about 14 years old. He would come round to my cul-de-sac in his old Commer (sp?) van, with his Pye Westminster base station upon the pasenger seat. Into CB in those days, I then ventured into short wave listening. My father took me to the MKARS meets at Newport Pagnell. I recall how friendly Dave G4NJU was. Prior to sitting the RAE in London (C&G), I visited the clubs Wolverton venue a few times.
Having passed my RAE, I became a 'regular' member of the club when it moved to Faulkner House, Bletchley Park. Easier for me to cycle to! I'm 41 years old now and don't cycle too much!
I'll miss Dave (G4NJU), a gentleman and always willing to help newcomers. If I recall correctly, he ran the RAE courses before Verdun. I think my brother Tom went to those. Dave imparted a lot of help with EMC enquiries. I think he was on the RSGB EMC Committee then. He helped me with a lot of circuits from his head whenever I asked about interfacing this or that to my radios.
You know, I'm not the best person to commemorate all of Dave's dedication to the local radio community so I'll ask for others to make their comments on the MKARS website at http://forum.mkars.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=75 . I'll raise a glass in memory of Dave. I thank him for all his help and for the great car he sold me! Cheers Dave.
